History of TBC

TBC’s Executive Director was among the first people to witness, and respond to, the urgent needs of thousands of refugees from Burma who fled into Thailand in 1984.

Initial ad-hoc emergency support for the refugees, from a number of small aid agencies forming an informal consortium, gradually evolved into a multi-membership aid organisation with a mandate from the Royal Thai Government (RTG) to provide food, shelter and non-food items for all the refugees along the entire border. Today that body is called the TBC.

Read the full story in chapter six of our publication ‘Between Worlds: Twenty Years on the border’ that can be found under Special TBC publications.

Donors

TBC enjoys the support of over 30 large and small donors and currently over 95% of its funding comes from the European Union and eleven governments. Although most of TBC’s funds are now institutional, it still continues to receive funds from individuals, private foundations and organisations and churches. For TBC’s staff these contributions are often the most encouraging and uplifting. For details on our supporters, please refer to section four of our six month report.
