September 2017 was the third month of the full roll-out for the Food Card system in Tham Hin and Nu Po camps.

The e-voucher system enables refugees to purchase food in accredited camp stores run mainly by refugee vendors.

A total of 13 foods including rice, oil, eggs and fresh produce are available under the system.

TBC is preparing to carry out an analysis and assessment of the pilot in the hope and expectation that it will be expanded to more camps.

The food card allows camp residents to enjoy more choice and decision-making in terms of their food options.

Cash-based aid systems that promote beneficiary choice and dignity, and support local markets, are a growing trend in humanitarian aid settings globally.
